The muslim guy above is right, its a discussion no need to preach here.
Im pretty sure that those discussions come about because Atheism wants to be a religion too, people preach it. A few years ago, there were no debates, arguments or anything regarding Atheism and religion all together, also people preach Atheism these days and not the common folk as much as scientists. That is kind of sad because if you think about it they should be uniting the world, helping the people, finding solution to our current eco problems etc, but instead people like Hawkings go and talk about religion.
Originally religions were given to create control and order by either wise men or insane lunatics
Jewdaism was given to people who had to roam in a desert, so its easy to get the logic with it.
Christianity was given to europe and the near east because the Romans couldnt keep up and there was little order and justice
Islam was given to the then savage arabs because they were uncivilized (no offence to anyone)
Now that we have so called order in the world religion isnt needed hence the high rates of Atheism, once a disaster strikes everyone will be religious again
