Klod's personal quarter-finals voting commentary
A. The Hari
What’s not to like about a little Bender/Mechazawa here, brain and body design? Let me – the robopsychologist – examine the case. Although he’s a ro… bot (got you there, didn’t I?), or because of being under the Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics (totally hippie-pacifistic), he wants his unrightfully owned fractally mimicked brain-wave humanity. Maybe he even has dreams about electric sheep, who knows, as he doesn’t seem to be the robots vs. humans revolt leader material (not comparing him to the shortie Hitler or the latter’s and former’s diet/light-oil similarity). Little Muppet Bender here doesn’t seek equality and respite from servitude, he obediently protects humans, and so he shouts in an attraction-park for humans, half-smilingly and half-weepfully, as if he had a human conscience: “I want back my Teddy! He’s a friend with Mr. Balloon!” And that, my robot-loving politically-correct amigos, is just pretty damn cute. All in all, the design is primitive and adds to its cute-y-pie-ness, since “I, Robot” wouldn’t have worked here, so that’s a plus. The finished sprite fits the theme perfectly, it even has a beautiful & sentient nostalgia sentiment floating about it, so another plus. What the finished sprite does – it shatters the boundaries: you wouldn’t see such a playwright drama-scene filled with such emotion without the balloon and the plushy-teddy. The shadow confirms this, too. But the shading is so similar to LF2 (or even polished LF1) style that it blows away all the worries in your soul. It’s a pity that it is such an under-rated sprite in terms of the first audience vote: larger is not always better and it, really, lacks a “shining” tone. Although I can see the appeal of Gad’s stunningly (un-)likely humongous doom’s day advanced nano-particle war-hungry terminator, the vote goes to the Hari for the conveyed artistry.
B. Marko pro
Bashcrazy has lost it. His family is shambles now that they know how unfamiliar in looks is his finished sprite to that of Barney Stinson, the hypothetical high-functioning sociopath (lolz is had). Shameful display, indeed, but maybe that’s just because I don’t like Barney Stu’s brown suit, like I don’t like Desperate Housewives. On the other hand, Marko Pro’s anonymous young-adult’s red suit is fantastic, even if the hair/face is not LF2, but anime style, like koori’s or something. But it’s all in the suit as suggested per the theme, so I’d like to see Marko in the next round just for this reason (even if the public sympathizes with bashcrazy on this one).
C. Sonic Boom
SonicBoom has demonstrated, that he is willing to improve in any ways possible, and as Machiavelli said: “a prudent man should always follow in the footsteps of great men and imitate those who have been outstanding”. Even if his left shoulder and left leg are broken and uneven. Not to mention, that the .gif is uncropped and too small.
D. EXG9
Not much to say without wanting to offend due to the works' low quality, so the .gif this time just takes priority over the cyber-punk.
E. Hero destroyer
The “Red Fox” from Naruto, but who watches Naruto without a single guilt of conscience? A mighty steed-fox, probably belongs to some demon, maybe in mundvoll_’s Fallen Angel’s servitude. In appearance resembling a large fire emanating from within its body and eyes without the black smoke shroud or rotted flesh, but certainly a heavy-muscle-built phantom-animal-monster. Probably has a high jump ability and tears the throats and stomps the groins of his enemies, if not with a fiery fire blasting breath-roar. As seen in larger image, a very detailed (almost Apocalipsis level) spriting quality. Mark probably chose to forfeit seeing your radiance with this entry. Best luck in the next round (you’ll need it, Hero-kun).
F. mundvoll_
The Fallen Angel who has cometh from the fifth heaven (according to Enoch), destroying the tree of knowledge, is it? Or a Nephilim, born from an archangel’s lustful encounter with a human female, teaching humanity how to procreate, among other arts and technology? The finished sprite looks extremely sinister and foulmouthed as if from the days of teh APOCALYPSE (as BluePhoenix would put it), as a black-azure-glowing sadist who would enjoy being cruel to humans and even have some as slaves or pets, even if he was a pet to someone only stronger in dark magic sacramentum than him, although I doubt if more wicked, with no sense of mercy or moral ground for his actions. That is, if he has any friends, the poor chap. No, you are not alone, even if so far unchallenged, but definitely my favorite in quality in this tournament.
