Do we actually have to fight after we break the door? I got all this lightning and blinding stuff, can we not use that to distract them somehow and run away?

It really depends. You can imagine the timing like this, the time you'd need to cast one spell everybody does one action (as per combat). So when you blind one or two people, then the others would have had enough time to react and attack you as well - you may try, but depending on the number of opponents that could cost you a (blinding) turn...
