Okay first some questions... unluckily I never played any Fire Emblem game so I might not be that pro at making up strategys this time...
first question would be, by "a player chooses to move up to a handful of squares (only in cardinal directions) on the map" do you mean that we can only move in a straight line, f.e. only 4 squares to the left... or is it possible to go two down and one right and one down again or whatever, like split it up? second question, about ranged attacks, can they only be used in cardinal directions aswell or can I also attack an enemy that's positioned two squares north and one west of me with a range greater than 2? and last question, are those gargoyles ranged or meele or aren't we supposed to know that yet? (because technically our characters fought them before and should know how they attacked, but since we have no visualisations of those fights and it wasn't said in the previous posts, I don't actually know wether they attacked us from range or not)

| ad 1) The only restriction is that you cannot move diagonal, otherwise you can move as you wish, ie up up left, or left up up (which would in this case result in the same spot anyway) ad 2) the range from ranged attacks can be used to attack an enemy as per movement in square distance (so as you described it would work) ad 3) standard attack of most enemies are melee, I believe they did cast ice ball or breath of ice once or twice, 'ball' spells mostly have some range and attacks that hit multiple enemies in this combat style will hit all enemies in a radius around you Hope this clears it up |
