1) I think we needn't go that deep, but still maybe some dialogue like "Our ancestors have kept the masks protected from the greedy world since the time they were found scattered all over the world" by Wizard.

1 sentence would be enough

2) Where as in? We don't know any specific location for Julian or any other LF too so idk why that info even matters

It matters mostly for the character sprite concept

3) Probably found an old scroll/map/whatever that indicates their existence? Or maybe, he is related to "wizard", maybe he is his student who betrayed him later on and tried to steal the masks.. I know sounds super cliche but eh..

How about this:
1, 3) the masks were created by Julian's ancestors (magia mask = dark power) but he lost the map. That's why Julian is also looking for the masks.
2) the main villain is the leader of a clan that wants to create a new breed of only the strongest fighters.
