Chapter Sixteen
“Why do you think that was not enough?” Marshall asked Cirno as they stood outside the east wall of the Empire’s ruined castle.
“Sonidow is a lot stronger now than before,” Cirno said still panting heavily from his energy-expensive attack. “I had to summon half of my energy to destroy his blade and the other half to blast him off. I’m running on pure fumes now.”
Marshall looked at his brother sternly. He kept his vine whip out for good reason.
Cirno positioned himself using his staff and continued, “But that level of attack was not enough to keep him down and out. He’ll be back soon.”
Marshall gave his brother a pat on the shoulder, “Go back into the castle. Rest and regain your energy.”
“What?” Cirno was surprised. “You can’t fight him by yourself.”
“Lord Razen and the Stickman are on the way,” Marshall said pointing toward their figures coming over the east wall. “I will be fine. Now go back inside.”
“But I…”
“Don’t argue, Cirno! We have already lost one because of bad decisions and reasoning. I don’t want to lose another. Now please…”
“Very well,” Cirno agreed to Marshall’s request.
The fatigued general made his way back into the castle as the Red Stickman and Lord Razen made their way out. Zabobula noticed Cirno’s exhausted expression but continued on.
Larges quakes began occurring underground. Marshall readied himself as did Lord Razen and the Stickman. Far off in the distance, where Evil Sonidow had crashed, a large cloud of dust blasted up into the air and the Dark Hunter dashed out it heading in Marshall’s direction.
Zabobula charged energy into his fists, Marshall readied his vine, and Lord Razen gripped his sword. Even though, he was swordless, the Dark Hunter charged at them all with electricity radiating from his gloved hands.
“NOW YOU WILL ALL DIE!” Sonidow roared out to his opponents.
Zabobula was the first to charge out at the mad warrior halting MH and Marshall’s pursuit. The Red Stickman charged at Sonidow with newfound anger being made visible in the pigments of his gradually changing pupils.
Seeing the Stickman again frustrated the Dark Hunter, “STARTING WITH YOU STICKMAN!”
“If I die,” Zabobula began, “I’LL BE SURE TO TAKE YOU TO HELL WITH ME!”
“First to the finish then,” Evil Sonidow declared.
Their fists banged into each other letting off a large semi-spherical shockwave. Marshall and Razen were caught off guard by the reaction and were thrown off their feet.
“What they Hell are these two?” MH asked out loud.
“That truly is the question,” Marshall said.
~
“How much longer until it opens?!” Haywire asked seeing the shockwave from over the east wall.
“Not much longer now,” Robo answered still holding his hands high in the air.
Drahcir had recovered from Sonidow’s previous attack and was burning in frustration and anger. “That is supposed to be me fighting him.”
“I would hope that after fighting him,” BP began, “you wouldn’t want to do it again. He’s not your everyday evil villain.”
“Villain is an understatement.”
Everyone turned to see a man with white hair walking in their direction.
“Noir is that you?” Blue-Phoenix announced.
“IT’S OPEN!”
With those words spoken, a large bolt of lightning streaked through the sky and spawned the creation of a dark hole. Clouds began swirling around the hole as if drawn to its presence.
“This is where the hard part begins,” Haywire said.
~
The Empire’s soldiers had won a great battle. But the arrival of the dark hole in the sky, everything changed.
“What the Hell is that?!” Alec screamed out loud.
“You’re not asking any of us are you?” Paddy asked.
“I do not like the looks of this,” Dome said.
The generals on the south wall had noticed the dark hole as well.
“We need to move our troops from this area,” Sinow proposed. “It is no longer safe here.”
“But we don’t even know what that is,” King said.
“That’s the point,” Sinow responded. “It could be dangerous. Most large black holes that come from out of nowhere are! Don, what do you suggest?”
“Inform the soldiers,” Don began, “We are leaving this area. You’re right Sinow; it is no longer safe here.”
“But where are we moving to?” King asked. “Not Ancuril I hope.”
“Of course not Ancuril,” Sinow said. “It may be one of our major cities but it would become overcrowded. Especially since STM and Silva are already evacuating our people from here to there.”
“Then what do you suggest?” King asked.
“Our Eastern Defense Wall,” Sinow said. “It has food, shelter, and it’s an appropriate place for our soldiers. Plus the S.R.S. soldiers are there as well.”
“Very well,” Don agreed, “the eastern wall it is. Now inform them all. Tell them to gather their things. We leave immediately.”
~
Snorbet, Sir Frog, and Fice arrived outside the walls of the western wall of the Empire. They all noticed the dark hole in the sky instantly after coming out of the forested area.
“Oh that can’t be good,” Snorbet said. “Maybe we should turn back and…”
“No Snorbet,” Fice responded. “This is our Empire as well.”
Sir Frog croaked in fear and swallowed hard.
“Look I know it looks dangerous but we need to find out what’s going on,” Fice said.
As much as he wanted to disagree, Snorbet replied. “You’re right.”
“Good let’s go,” Fice said.
Fice began making his way into the castle until he noticed something unusual. He could not feel Snorbet or Sir Frog’s presences behind him. Fice turned around and noticed that they had run off in the other direction.
“HEY!” Fice yelled out at the two.
“I’m not the fighting type Fice,” Snorbet yelled with the volume of his voice getting softer the further away he ran. “I’ll leave that to you all. I hope you win!”
Fice chased after the two, “Get back here! Show some backbone you two!”
“I don’t think Sir Frog has one!” Snorbet yelled out.
“HEY!” Sir Frog yelled out at Snorbet.
“Oh you talked again!” Snorbet said. O_O
~
Evil Sonidow and Zabobula continued to clash in their power struggle. The Dark Hunter’s electrical clout against Zabobula’s red and raw power. More shockwaves began radiating from their confrontation with each one stronger than the last.
“You cannot defeat me, Stickman!” Evil Sonidow shouted. “You waste my time every time you keep trying!”
“This is beyond who is better, Sonidow!” Zabobula said. “I don’t care if I defeat you anymore.”
“Then why do you continue to fight?!” Evil Sonidow asked intensifying his electrical hold on the Stickman. “What is it that you are trying to prove?”
The Stickman glanced into the sky and smiled as he said, “I will tell you, when we are no longer part of this world.”
Sonidow carefully analyzed those words and realized something was wrong. He looked into the sky and saw the dark hole hovering over them!
“NO!” Evil Sonidow shouted as his raged gave way to more power in his conflict with the Stickman.
He gripped Zabobula’s hands extremely tight causing the Stickman to take a knee. And in one fell swoop, he launched the Stickman into the east wall. Zabobula crashed threw the wall and ended inside the castle. Robo and the others were surprised to see him crash threw the wall.
“Not good,” Haywire alerted Robo. “He knows! Drahcir come!”
Evil Sonidow came rushing into the castle through the hole Zabobula created. As soon as Drahcir saw the Dark Hunter sprinting in their direction, he immediately dashed off towards him. Illuminating his beam sword, the galactic soldier charged full speed at Evil Sonidow.
“You are mine Sonidow!” Drahcir shouted as he gripped his sword heavily.
Sonidow acknowledged Drahcir’s incoming presence and accepted his immediate battle request. Out of nowhere, the Dark Hunter spawned a katana from his hands using his electric power.
“Come then,” Sonidow said.
Once they got within range they began their duel with blades. Drahcir leapt over Sonidow and began coming at him with a furious barrage of attacks. The emotion and intensity of his attacks were so fierce, Sonidow could practically smell the anger on him.
“I’ll kill you for what you did to my brother!” Drahcir said.
“No my stubborn opponent,” Sonidow began, “you will join him.”
Every word that came out of Sonidow’s mouth angered Drahcir even more. He aimed for his neck as he threw out a furious slash. Sonidow ducked and countered with a thrust of his sword. The Dark Hunter’s blade tore through the fabric of Drahcir’s shirt but did not cut him. Sonidow was surprised when Drahcir drew another beam sword and cut him across the face. He was forced to draw back or suffer another attack from the excruciatingly hot beamed-blade of Drahcir’s sword.
“You are the first to cut me in a duel of blades,” Evil Sonidow said. “I commend you for that. But that is all I am giving you. For now I will return the favor, with interest.”
“Do your worst,” Drahcir dared.
Drahcir said the wrong words as he was dealt a heavy blow from behind by Sonidow who seemingly transported behind him considering how fast he moved. His blade had pierced threw Drahcir’s abdomen and Sonidow continued to push it in. The galactic soldier immediately spat up blood from his mouth.
“You called for it,” Sonidow said pushing the blade further threw his stomach from behind him. “Now you shall receive my worst.”
Zabobula rose out of the debris to see the galactic soldier getting run through by Sonidow. He looked at Robo who now had his hands down which only meant one thing.
“It’s about to begin.”
The Dark Hole instantly got two times bigger and began pulling in any and everything with large gale force winds! Taking notice to the changes, Sonidow removed his blade from his opponent and let him fall to the ground. The Red Stickman charged after him but Sonidow did not acknowledge him for battle. Instead he ran in the direction of Robo and Blue-Phoenix. Haywire, being on top of the east wall, would not be able to make it in time.
“You have opened the portal,” Sonidow said as he continued running towards Robo. “You have doomed us all! But I will make sure you will be the first ones to go through it!”
Blue-Phoenix got in front of Robo to protect him, drawing his ice sword. However as Sonidow lunged in for the kill, another sword came in and deflected his attack. The Dark Hunter was stopped in his tracks as he faced the Dark Angel.
Noir was not in his regular mode which meant even more bad news for the Dark Hunter. Pointing his sword at Sonidow, he had only one question for him.
“Tell me, Sonidow, do you know what Dark Justice is?”
Sonidow did not answer for he knew this attack. Those who try to answer find out quicker than expected. Instead he returned his sword to its frontal position and challenged the Dark Angel to a duel. The winds were blowing up hard as the portal to the other realm began sucking up anything that had no mass or wasn’t nailed down.
“Very well then ‘Dark Hunter’,” Noir accepted holding up his blade. “I will show you Dark Justice.”
Drahcir was lying in a pool of his own blood. He began seeing flashes of his brother which kept him alive, kept him going. The soldier did not have the strength to get up so he stayed down on the ground lying on his back. But the images of his brother blowing up in his head caused him to quickly stagger back up. Using his sword for leverage, he stood back up.
“Brother,” He began his eyes blurring in and out. “I am sorry. I’m sorry that I couldn’t protect you. But at whatever cost, I will avenge you even if I have to rejoin with you sooner. I will!”
The Red Stickman dropped in front of him. “I don’t know who you are, but you seem to lean on our side.”
Drahcir looked at the Stickman, “He killed my brother. So at whatever cost, I will kill him.”
“But you have already gone through enough already,” Zabobula responded. “I have seen you fight him.”
“Whatever cost,” Drahcir declared looking Zabobula straight in the face.
Zabobula smiled, “You are strong, but you do not deserve to die over something you were not originally apart of. I am the reason this is all happening.”
Drahcir looked at the Stickman with a surprised look on his face. “You?”
“Yes,” Zabobula answered. “If anyone should take the full consequence, it should be me.”
The winds began enlarging in size and power. Fragments of the castle itself began uplifting towards the dark abyss in the sky.
The galactic soldier could see that Zabobula had a plan. After being told what the plan required, he agreed to it.
“But we have to wait for the right moment,” Zabobula said.
“Understood,” Drahcir said.
~
They prepared themselves as Sonidow and Noir continued to fight. Time was running short and the dark portal grew larger every second that passed. If there was ever a time to act, it would have to be soon for the fate of them all hung within the balance…
Escape is a two-syllable word that grants temporary peace in the present to a future victim.
