What was the name of Super Mario Bros 2 (NES) originally? First it wasn't planned to be a sequel to SMB.

I presume you're talking about "Doki Doki Panic". I'm not quite sure since SMB2 in Japan and the US/Europe are different.
The one in Japan is sometimes known over here as "The Lost Levels", though that one was the real SMB2. It was pretty much a hardened version of the original with new stuff. The one we got is an edit of "Doki Doki Panic" that had some minor changes to make it Mario-ey since SMB2J was way too hardcore for the US/Europe audience.
