I think Marti is the artist of the two; Starsky is more of the programmer. correct me if i'm wrong.
and there's no "secret of dc, hex, and sprites".
dc - yes we would know much more than they do now, mostly because we don't have access to the sourcecode (refer to BP).
sprites - that was Marti's choice of style at the time. Perhaps they did the sprites a completely different way to what we (you) are doing. i.e. spriting huge then resizing or something. perhaps flash. I don't know.
hex - Nave is probably right.
Just accept it, they won't have so much time to free themselves and teach us whatever. the only possible thing (which has a really, really, really tiny chance) would be sprites. We know dc, we know hex (chinese community does as well), and sprites is more of practise than how. You can come up with a good sprite with your own made up style if you practise (and your style changes for the better).
