I guess that was what Marti tried to avoid by not releasing the source code: transferring the game into a study example of changing, modding, srewing, and deleting. On one hand, yes, it is a good fighting game, but since it is rather simple built, people can easily understand the code (at least of the characters, hex is, more or less, a myth for a lot of people). And, quite frankly, how did you feel when you finished a small project relating to LF2. I guess like something that you want to repeat again. That is that kind of motivation that keeps great parts of the community alive. Why else is the projects and releases forum one of the biggest around here (not counting the forum games)? Compare it to.... let's say the Hex-Forum. Either, Silva talks to himself by posting a new thread with a new exe-change, or somebody asks him if xyz is possible. Any mod stays basically the same core-wise, it depends what people do with the rest. However, more and more people aquire more and more knowledge and thus become more interested in messing around with LF2. The interest in LF2 shifts, from a pure fighting game to not more than a game engine, like Marshall already said. But this is almost unavoidable, since LF2's complexity-level is rather low, such that people want to become socalled "experts" by messing around with the program. But, like I said, for its complexity it has been alive for a rather long time, and it still can fascinate people. Compare that to any other game, written in the same year. But, yea, my final conclusion is that the LF2 community has shifted from a fanclub to a manipulating society.
