Following a tutorial step-by-step is about as senseless as not having a tutorial. If you don't spend some time on figuring out things on your own, you don't advance at all in graphics. That's the way it is.

By the way, there is no need to rampage, the tut tells you what you have to do and still leaves you much freedom in doing your stuff.
