why bat don't care? well, he have to control the boat - and if we have a rower there cant be a engine problem in the middle of the lake which give you time to fight, right? 
Oh and if Bat would fight - how the hack should I bring him to keep on the boat? you would lose after one sec :P
I know engines might not be usual for mid-age, but I couldnt find a better reason why stopping in the middle of a lake. bio-break seemed a bit to crazy.
oh and if you ask why the boat has no engineyet: dont worry, it'll come
