Hmmm, *got a bit confused* maybe your idea of "few chars know that they're in a game" WILL be epic hilarious...

Don't over-do it.
I know a lot of shows/series try to be funny by using that technique, but it should be subtle and small, not the 'best part of the joke'.

e.g.
Character 1: "You should press Defend, Forward and Attack to evade enemy attacks."
Character 2: "Thanks for the tip!"

Either way, do you mind posting some more than just screenshots? How about recording a video or creating a .gif?
I (and many others) would love to see the animations of the attacks.
