Ramon picks up a few stones and throws them into the lava river. He watches them as they fall and fall and fall.
With the help of the gravitation constant g=9.81, he manages to evaluate the distance between this platform and the lava river: It's about 30 metres high. It's no use for him though, because he has already known.
