Practice makes perfect they always say and I have been most definitely neglecting that lately with all my work and such. But school and life comes first in my book, but I have been aching to get back in to spriting. The following sprite was more of an exercise to work with some of the major issues I have with spriting including shading, color usage, and anatomy.
Colors: I have for quite a while focused on using very dark colors with my sprites and I really wanted to try something different and use more vibrant colors.
Anatomy: BP has know how I sprite for quite a while and he knows that I have always tried to cover up hands and eyes in some way shape or form. I really want to break this habit because it would allow me to use so much more concepts than I am normally limited to. Hand gestures can easily make the attack look more powerful while a ferocious eye might make or break the overall feel of the sprite.
Shading: Shading has always been something I have jumped back and forth over the line with. Primarily I would either show to big of a contrast in colors or too little which would give the sprite a 3D feel. I am currently just trying to find the balance in between the two that will give my sprites the aesthetics I am currently looking for.
So if you have the time, please critique the following sprite on those elements (and more if you want to). I am really interested in proving the quality of my sprites and all comments and suggestions would be of great help. I thank you in advance.

Please note that the sprite is not at my normal quality that I like, that is mainly because I focused on the areas that I struggle with. Also it lacks the creative edge I normally put in to my sprites. Once again, its all because it is practice.
