wow, thats awesome!
i can see you've improved on the space theme ;)
3 little things to fix

-The moon looks a little flat, and lacks in details

-You can barely see the planet/asteroid crashing into the planet, lower the opacity of the red explosion/light

-the star field looks...depthless, like is kinda flat, so look at this tut for how to make starfields
http://www.freephotoshop.ca/tutorials/ef...t-tutorial

btw, the blue planet is awesome, i dont think you need to do anymore to that ;)

i know this is a work in progress, but thats what i think should be added/fixed for it to look finished ;)

I had a problem with making the stars in the bg. For some reason (I was using a Mac btw) everytime I tried to adjust the levels to make less stars it just kept getting more...how would I say this...noisier? Has anyone else had this problem working on a mac with photoshop? CS4 btw.

(bumping thread for the sake of bumping :D )

Okay, so... time to drop a little critique (not so much this time because I need to read through too many posts to catch back up :P).

Background:
- I need to quote somebody from deviantart who helped me myself to improve: "I can tell you based your [in this case: nebula] on a "clouds" filter, big mistake, no professional would ever use that filter Xd at leats not without severe manipulation."
You can surely see the cloud-filter being used. Try to make some nebulae yourself, it's not as hard to do that as you may think (well, it can be hard, it can be easy). What you have to do is taking a large fuzzy brush + low opacity and draw random stuff in linear-dodge-mode. Afterwards, take smaller and smaller brushes until you're happy with the result. If you want to put massive detail into the cloud, do your last strokes with a 1-3px-brush. Otherwise, a 9-20px one should be fine, too.
- stars are never as large as you made them, except if you're in very close proximity. A dot works already quite well. About the Levels-problem: I've encountered that one, too; check if you're blending the layer with any other one. Also, that there aren't any selections, layer masks or effects active.

Moon:
- give it a little tint, even if it's just a slight one.
- I see the good old clouds-filter again. Some manipulating would be great, too :)

Planet:
- Clouds, clouds, clouds...
- don't exaggerate with the outer glow, it might be cool but it can also be quite awkward if you take too much.
- inner glow should be larger & (thus) smoother
- some extra colors that reveal something about the surface of the planet would be cool

Other:
- the asteroid is a little too blurred. It looks like if it's traveling at a speed that is closer to light than to reality :P
- I don't think the lens flare is absolutely necessary. (skip the following if you know a little about lens flares) Lens flares appear inside a camera lens, they don't have anything to do with the image's composition. A very bright spot creates a lens flare inside the camera; means: lens flares do not interact with any object in the respective picture. A color shift usually doesn't appear.
- shockwave could get a little extra detail.

That's it. Somehow the whole theme looks terribly familiar :P
