Ok I'll give GIMP a shot and some of those head transplants.... BTW I am using references, I'm just still not that good...
Alright then GIMP is taking awhile to figure out.... This is a lot harder to figure out than paint....
This is bat on firen... named him firebat don't ask why.. It just kinda makes sense. Just edited him a little
Thanks for uploading them, some more shading required on some sprites, because they seem to only have light but no dark parts. Proportions are still out a bit, but they're getting better so well done Tj.
Keep up the improvement
One day, I shall become, TUTORIAL-MAN: Superhero of writing overly long, overly annoying tutorials which most people probably won't read, but will give it a stab at the first 5 lines!
Alright so I've been working on a few more and here it is.
Shadow Beast (not sure what to name this)-
And I've also updated Roy with some more shading.
Give me your opinions... BTW I'm still working on the shading...
There are little little improvement.
I suggest using GIMP or a base at least cause the come out like an old video games graphic. at least you got the idea of shading
This is a sprites I made with GIMP and it looks isn't that awesome but I sprited only 4 times and GIMP helped me a lot, and it would really help you too if you would download and use it wiesly. Also look at other spriters and learn how they do it but don't just copy there technique just use a peace from each one of them and make you own spriting technique.
SO LONG AND THANKS FOR ALL THE FISH

Well, you don't need much of GIMP. Just take the brush with scale: 0.13 or something and for the shading you either use a darker colour or the burn tool. All those fancyfuncu - Simoneon stuff you can use besides that isn't really important.
The shadow beast actually is quite ok, basic shading is correct. But like the others I would say you definately should use a base. Roy's proportions aren't even close to LF2- or human ones. The ones of the shadow beast are better, but it will be hard to get them exactly right without a base. So try to use one. Even later you should have another char directly beside your one to compare the proportions until you just "know" how to do them.
Btw: Here is a great tutorial for hair: http://www.lf-empire.de/forum/showthread.php?tid=2707
