Use lighter color for that part where it supposed to be lighter.

He means that you haven't put enough contrast in some places - especially on hands, arms and torso the shading is barely visible. Just make the lighter color even lighter. (Or the dark one even darker)

better, i suggest you make a more defined(?) shading for the hair.. like using visible spikey strokes to show hairy texture.
other shading looks not bad, keep doing what u did for this sprite and u will get better as i hope.

But try to be more creative. Don't only recolour him, add him a coat, gloves, new boots, a belt, whatever....
+ i'm not sure if mix of purple, orange and green looks good ;d

I had added a belt but I know it's not that creative.

nay, it's not about the colors itself, its how you mix them together, like color composition, scheme. Also mind the difference between each body parts' contrast. I don't know for sure, but I just assume it that you kind of see only one body part of another, instead you should try to see it as a whole. Then you automatically will blend the colors better together.

look at my drawings/sprites, they suck. But i still comment on creations of dudes like bp, alectric, prince_freeza, siegvar, whaat, gad, timme, uhm and etc.
