Bamboori: Still, I'd like to go search for Ian.
Steiner: Oh, don't bother. He's out doing his nightly chant.
Bamboori: His what?
Steiner: His... 'profession' requires him to do so every night. It is very reminiscent of a prayer to a higher force.
Bamboori: So he's outside praying.
Steiner: He's usually only out for a couple minutes.
Blue Phoenix: Is there a way out besides the ice-enchanted caves?
Steiner: Of course, it would be a big waste of time otherwise.
Blue Phoenix: Convenient...

SirFrog: Alright, so, uh, I guess we'll head to bed after all then...
Blue Phoenix: Sure. It was a long day. Jaden and all that jazz.
SirFrog: Good night, Steiner.

As they move towards the door, they notice Bamboori isn't following them and turn around.

Bamboori: I can't sleep, I'm going to wait for Ian. I'll join you later.

Blue Phoenix nods and they head back to their rooms.

Bamboori: So, could I get a drink? I'm still kind of thirsty.

Steiner moves over to a large barrel, takes a cup from a shelf and tunks it into the barrel. After returning and handing Bamboori the cup (now filled with fresh water), he continues nicking his stick. Bamboori takes a few sips, then puts the cup down again. He tries to think of something to talk about with Steiner, but his mind is a blank void at this time. A couple minutes pass.

Bamboori: Hm. Not very talkative, are you?

Steiner subtly shrugs.

Ian: Talking costs energy. He doesn't talk when it isn't necessary.

Bamboori darts around in his seat. There's nobody where he believes he heard the voice from. After turning back around, Ian is suddenly sitting next to him. What a mysterious and shady guy...

Ian: I presume you still have questions, ...Bamboori, was it?
Bamboori: Yeah, Bamboori.
Ian: That isn't your real name though.
Bamboori: No. I... have no idea where it came from.
Ian: Just like you don't know where you came from.
Bamboori: It's strange, really. The first memory me - and my friends for that matter - can recall, is waking up in that prison cell...
Ian: That does sound like you have had a severe beating. Amnesia. But it will eventually pass.
Bamboori: When?
Ian: That depends.
Bamboori: On what?
Ian: On different factors.
Bamboori: Which ones?
Ian: *sigh* Could we drop this topic, please. I'm not omniscent, you know.
Bamboori: But you're the one who brought it up.

Ian slams his fist onto the table. Bamboori jumps from his chair.

Ian: Relax. Just testing your reflexes.
Bamboori: (Psycho...)

bamboori just had a sudden thought regarding his and his friends' prison memory.
could they have been knowing about their fate and searching for the remaining chosen ones already?
so maybe they could get some clues going back there.
he proposes that to ian.

Bamboori: Say, I just had a thought.
Ian: Mhm?
Bamboori: Could it be possible that we've figured out the prophecy with the Chosen Ones and all that by ourselves, before we lost our memories? That would explain why we were a group already...
Ian: Sure, it's possible. Even if you did not know the prophecy in detail - only few do, of which most are underlings of my master - you probably could not have overlooked the common dream you had been sharing.
Bamboori: So, perhaps we could return to Hell and try to gather clues about how and why we ended up there?

Ian shrugs.

Ian: You ended up in a prison. Prisons are royal institutes, so you might as well be outlawed there.
Bamboori: In fact, after the Platiniac Army had invaded, nobody recognized us anywhwere.
Ian: That doesn't mean they're not looking for you anymore. I'd tread carefully. If you've left any clues they might have been destroyed by whoever beat you up. And whoever did must have connections to the king, why else would you land in a prison?
Bamboori: Hm... In fact, I forgot that the path back to Hell is unavailable due to a collapsed bridge. Maybe we can pass by there whenever we're close by anyway?
Ian: Definitely.

Suddenly, something sparks in Bamboori's mind.

Bamboori: Ah! Marcus Hawk.
Ian: Hm?
Bamboori: Do you know him?
Ian: ...nope.
Bamboori: His name just popped into my head again. One of the few things we did remember. I believe we were looking to talk to him when we were beat up.
Ian: So he might be responsible for that.
Bamboori: In fact he is. But I don't remember any details.

Silence. The only faint sound to fill the environment is the snore of a sleeping ninja from the neighboring room.

Bamboori: Well, it's been a long day. I guess I'll head to bed as well.
Ian: Good. Tomorrow will be a strenuous day. We've got a long road ahead of us.

Bamboori wishes Ian and Steiner a good night and leaves the room.

Ian: Yes. A long road indeed.
Steiner: Master?
Ian: Oh, stop calling me that already.
Steiner: So there's no change of plans for tomorrow morning?
Ian: Of course not. It is a necessary measure.
Steiner: Alright, I'll take care of the preparations now.

Steiner leaves the room in the opposite direction than Bamboori.

Ian: ...and so it begins.

to be continued...

End of Part I: Amnesia
