your style is perfect for a 2d rpg :P
unfortunately this is lf2. imo this is getting quite good. Just something: the grass layers, I'd think it'll look better if it wasn't so... tall with a sudden cut off line (even though it's a curly line). I'd think it'll be better if it's like how you'd sprite a grass object if one was to be made as a t3 object. meaning, make it have strands of grass rather than cutting a section of a grassy texture thing.

Photoshop. You just need to play out with the default grass brush that comes with it (You must know what is it as you can still see it in the pic) and opacity of the brush. (And good choice of colours, but that's obvious)
As for the black pixels, just copy the layer and paste it in a black background, merge them and use the magic eraser tool with a higher tolerance, and smooth/antialiasing (can't remember the name right now) unchecked. Just play with the tolerance for a while and you'll get something good most of the times.
Edit: I know it's not a very helpful comment but you should try to get something good with you own stlye. (As I'm doing)
