i will now try improve the trees (i didnt like them either)
and get rid of the black pixels
the lighter one should be at the back because it is closer to the sun!
why should it be the other way around?
i tried it earlier and it looked...wrong

your style is perfect for a 2d rpg :P

unfortunately this is lf2. imo this is getting quite good. Just something: the grass layers, I'd think it'll look better if it wasn't so... tall with a sudden cut off line (even though it's a curly line). I'd think it'll be better if it's like how you'd sprite a grass object if one was to be made as a t3 object. meaning, make it have strands of grass rather than cutting a section of a grassy texture thing.

You should aim at something like this (made it because I don't know how to explain it Dx):

i see what you mean, i am making it a bit too flat.
its hard to do that grass effect without bucket loads (around the top) of black pixels though which make it look dirty
whats a good way to do it?

@Apocalipsis, what program did you use to make that small picture? and what settings?

Photoshop. You just need to play out with the default grass brush that comes with it (You must know what is it as you can still see it in the pic) and opacity of the brush. (And good choice of colours, but that's obvious)

As for the black pixels, just copy the layer and paste it in a black background, merge them and use the magic eraser tool with a higher tolerance, and smooth/antialiasing (can't remember the name right now) unchecked. Just play with the tolerance for a while and you'll get something good most of the times.

Edit: I know it's not a very helpful comment but you should try to get something good with you own stlye. (As I'm doing)

thanks for your advice apocalipsis!
very helpful
i tried also remaking one of the trees
so, how much more needs to be improved!

(btw, i will make the fence slightly higher, and get rig of the black pixels on the tree)

Holy moly!
If the tree wouldn't be so fat and more pixelated it would surely look better. Not only delete the black pixels but make it really thinner.
And the clouds should change too. The don't look very LF2ish. I'd take the older ones and use some magical filters on it.

Like so maybe:
