@Hacker: Might be interesting for the unenlightened ones though (myself included :P)

I once tried finishing a 4x4x4 cube but I didn't want to "cheat" and check the internet how to do it so I'm pretty much stuck :P

did you ever finish a 3x3x3? if not you should really start with that one cause the 4x4x4 can have two very difficult parity errors at the end you wont figure out just like that (especially when you dont even manage to solve the 3x3x3 part)

Well YinYin i'm currently trying to figure out the 2x2 LanLan i bought myself.
So the Basic idea is just getting the White or whatsoever site you choose together by using the Algorithm you used in the LbL for getting in the corner Pieces of the White layer right?

uhm
layer by layer ...
well a 2x2 doesnt really have that many layers does it
getting four corners together correctly shouldn require any special algorithms
and once youve got that done you just go for the regular algs you use for your remaining 3x3 corners aswell - just beware of its parity as it doesnt have centers (two corners might be switched which makes it look impossible to solve but it isnt on an even cube)

edit: heck you know all that if you can solve it and i have no idea whether there are special things when speed solving a 2x2

edit: found a good method for a 2x2 - Ortega - it looks damn fast and it doesn seem to require too much either

also has a list of other methods: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd8inH-nAQ8
