actually...and i obviously only speak for my experiences here...
you can improve your knowledge on lf2 anatonomy:
- by drawing over different original poses of LF2 chars (not the template style first---just draw over Woody for example)
- by slightly altering original poses (that cloud is all woody -->http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/180/70411145.png)
- by drawing out moves on paper in the right lf2 anatomy (i will probably later make a tutorial on that one)
- by frankenspriting (that is all bat for example -->
http://www9.picfront.org/picture/exGJdOa0/thb/33.png some frankenspriting here and there and of course some altering of poses)
FRANKENSPRITING Tutorial on Sprites (
http://scrollboss.illmosis.net/tutorial_...riting.php )
- drawing over existing chars in template-style won't actually help you that much, if you don't understand where for example, the upperarm starts and ends, where the thigh connects with the knee and the lower leg, where and how limb can moves in which angles,etc...
in the end, i think decent scratch work is ONLY possible, if you have enough knowledge about the LF2 anatomy, its movement possibilities, limb angles and a good sense of where to put the shading.
Therefore try to look as much as possible on original sprites, and of course on sprites of other users here, see what they do right, and what wrong, and of course PRACTICE is all the way to go for becoming an better artist (trial-failure-trial-succes!)
