More active IRC?

As I have seen for a long time in view who's online,nobody go to chat!
All member looks main index (except me,YinYin and "someone else" who use User Control Pane or pm system).

So would it be better if you put chat in main index?
As I said all members are on main index so they easily go to chat with each-others.

IRC is active, you just need to be on the right times.

I think there was a thread somewhere about adding a chatbox to the main index, and the general agreement was 'No' because it would have been spammed like nuts
and make the forum load a lot slower in your browser. (something like that)

And generally, if people want to talk, they'll just click on IRC anyway, or contact the members they want to talk to via other means. I mean hey, it IS a forum.
By starting this thread, im sure more people will flock to IRC anyway.

And as a preference, i dont always want to chat to people as soon as i log into LFE.

Blaaaragh, my laptop has some IRC hating issues, so as soon as I fix that I'll be there more.

Otherwise, I kinda agree with not having a chatbox on the main page.

erh, a little off the side of this topic, at what on your clock (well australian time to be more specific) is it when it does get active?

First things first: Facebook is evil.


Also, IRC is never really active as anyone would expect. If you want to start a convo, take yourself some time as people that powerlurk rarely respond in time. Other than that, you can trigger at pretty much any time some sort of activity in there. blowfly covers the Australian times, Silva, Ascor, Jerkington, Grimwind, and I are usually online in the european times. Fine, we don't have anyone sitting in America all day long in IRC, so there might be a little dip at like 1am GMT


But back to the issue: I will not add the chatbox to the index-page. Many people just stay there because of the overview. Adding a chat-feature to the forum's front-page, so to say, is rather counterproductive and will cause awkwardly long loading-times. People that want to chat can do so via accessing the chat-pages (aka. going to IRC over the Java Applet or via the stream-page). People that don't want to chat, don't want to chat. Easy as that.
