Shoutbox?

How about a shoutbox for this website? The Irc chat is ok but it's seems "far". But of course that's just my opinion. Why not have a shoutbox above all the forums?

I don't really get what you mean with "far", and I don't see any prob with the IRC. I know, Cirno is pretty much the only lurker in there, and I doubt that a shoutbox will increase the popularity of the IRC...

I didn't say there was a problem with the IRC. I meant why not have some form of instant communication on the page as the forums?

There's nothing wrong with an extra widget XD. Also, the IRC doesn't necessarily have to be replaced and their not that big as far as file size goes. Shouldn't be much of a problem.

Eh just go lurk on irc and stop whining about lack of a shoutbox.

In the end the irc will have a lot more depth compared to "HEY YOU HI"'s all over a damn useless box that occupies space on the main page.

All of this is useless anyways, seeing how we're all just stray individuals with little communication between each other outside of the forum!

Wow someone's edgy today. But really, no one's complaining here. I'm just suggesting an extra widget Cirno. The only thing close to complaining that is going on here is the in between constant comparisons of advantages and disadvantages of a suggestion that isn't really put into circulation until the administrator gets here.

MH needs to do some things in real life, as far as I know he's supposed to come back in one week or (but don't rely on that information).


Back to topic: problem with adding a shoutbox is that the forums get bigger again. I remember the discussion about the overview plugin, and I assume that it won't be any different with the shoutbox. In fact, you're registered, you can log into the IRC without any problems, so why should we do basically the same thing twice for the forums? The IRC can also be "abused" as a shoutbox. So yea, my opinion: IRC > shoutbox

a shoutbox loads way faster than irc - even in the browser its easier to use
it would be shown on the index - ie anyone viewing the forum would be there to talk
you would be able to minimize it to save your precious space (i myself have all forums minimized as i only view through recent posts or use the search feature)

i wonder why the overview doesnt have a minimizer btw
