I'm still open to any form of critique regarding the tournament (thanks for your input, empirefantasy!). Mention what you like, dislike, etc, to make the next tournament even better! :)

MAKE THIS A YEARLY COMPETITION!

The only thing I didn't like was matches not taking place and people dropping out.

Maybe for the next fighting tournament we should use a few pre rounds for qualification that will also make sure people actually participate.
So instead of everyone just posting that they want to join and you wasting time setting up matches with half of them not taking place everyone should seek his first opponent on his own and fight matches for one round according to the rules.

Once the joining phase+rounds are over all the ones that could prove they can arrange their matches and abide the rules are in and you can start planning the next rounds.
That way you would also prevent an odd number of participants.

Or we could have this throughout the year and convert this tournament into a league table and each player has to play everyone twice and you get points for draw wins and losses
LFE PREMIER LEAGUE FTW!

I understand your discomfort about the move-limitations. However, these moves have a reasoning behind them. For example, Rudolf's invisibility. At low HP, the MP-recovery is extremely fast and so you can stay invisible almost all the time. Same with Henry's flute. And battling a constantly-fluting Henry on HK-Coliseum is extremely annoying.

Sure, I can cancel out any move-limitations for the next tourney but I am not sure if this will not unbalance the matches completely. Opinions?

In retrospect, yes, 7 might look like it'd have not been enough. In the future, I am going to increase the rounds-per-participants-ratio to something like 1/2 (not 1/3 like this time). We'll see about it ;)

I don't know if I want to have that hassle every year :p

Fully agreed!

Sounds like a great plan! Setting up 1 or 2 pre-fights shouldn't be much of an issue; and starting the tournament (with points etc.) after those could really help as well.

I don't know how it is for you, but from my point of view, it was quite annoying to run after the people reminding them to get their match done. Doing this for a whole year doesn't sound much pleasant.....
Furthermore, I doubt that many people would like to do this throughout a whole year; especially during the holidays-seasons, things could get quite bad (ie. I love traveling abroad with no internet whatsoever).

By the way, which system do you prefer most?
  • The classic one: lose once, you're out
  • Modified classic: after two losses, you're out
  • Round Robin/Swiss: the system I have used in this tournament

Why Round Robin/Swiss? Here we had a random opponents and it was not until the end of the fair. Those who are not on the podium could be the toughest opponents, and those who are on the podium could have easily.

In my view, the first system is the best. Since winning the best player who eliminates all. This system is the best indicator of the player's skill.

Therefore prefer The Classic system.
