[RPG] Apoc's Survival
#1
Not actually related to Apoc

The Apocalypse Survival RPG
RPGs, if properly organized and filled with people who have a good sense of imagination, can be plenty of fun. Accordingly I would like to offer hosting a forum-based post-world-apocalyptic Survival RolePlay(Game) which uses a simplified (and slighty modified) ruleset of Vampires: The Masquerade. It's easy to grasp, even easier to play and should be simple to learn for new people.
This RPG is set in a 'not-so-distant-future' setting where the individual characters find themselves deserted wherever they have last slept, in a large city full of zombies, raiders, madmen and maybe even more then there is to the obvious eye. The player's goal is, in it's most basic form, survival: Gather food, supplies, tools and weapons. Try to hide, dig in, run off or simply fight. Group up with other survivors (players and NPC alike), fight with your enemies, improve your skills, figure out what started the Apocalypse or even try to install a new emergency government. All up to you.
To join this RPG, you merely need to check on the basic rule explanation found below, create a character and send my your character details via PM. If you got Questions, check the FAQ or send me a PM, I would prefer to minimize the amount of OOC (Out-Of-Character, aka non-RPG) talk.
The RPG will be handled both in public and private. Multiple characters may act entirely independ from each other as they make their way through the city (or other areas). People CAN join up in groups (and usually I would advise doing so), but are free to lonewolf around. You are free to act however you wish, say whatever you want and do whatever feels right to do. However, if you intend to do something extraordinary, you should always keep in mind that success is NOT a given and should contact me (the 'gamemaster') beforehand (per PM). Powergaming (acting like a godlike superhero who always wins) will get you kicked/killed from the RPG, square and fair.

Let's proceed with the all-mighty

I'm currently still writing on the rulebook (or rather, writing out the clear definitions), but I think I should probably already post the threat to draw some attention to it.
Since the character creation is already done, you're free to apply (PM!) with your characters. As mentioned, you can run around alone or form up in groups, pick up wounded strangers or leave your companions behind, there is no finalized 'group', 'adventure' or 'player limit'.
The background informations to the setting are intentionally kept low, as it's my intention for you/the players/the readers to find out those pieces of informations along the RP itself. You merely need to know that the basic start location will be a large-ish city in a generalized country without name in the current timeline in a realistic setting. Take New York, Berlin or Paris as example if you want to. I will create a sketch map when I'm done with the rules, but that's all you get. So, no mages, steampunk, Firzen's and mutant-robo-ninja characters for now, please :P
(Albeit I wouldn't actually mind if people made the LF2 chars into 'realistic' characters for the RP. Lawer Woody FTW.)

In case anybody's still contemplating: I signed up already so you wouldn't be alone. :P

May I suggest switching the 'in of character' and 'out of character' styles? I find it more natural if the italics text would belong to the story. Perhaps put the 'out of character' parts in brackets?

Hmm, I suppose that's preference. In my case, I'm used to the actual content being plaintext without italic, for the reason that not all platforms support italic. F.e. in a IM, you would have plaintext and mark the OOC with brackets. I would prefer to keep the format like this, unless more people demand it to change.
As well, working on Inventory/Combat rulesection now.

The Tales of Jonny Ramon - Chapter I
All right, let's get the party started :O
I think you should keep the 'title' above on all posts related to a specific RP-scenario to make it easier to read. Albeit you might want to change that name

A new challenger is approaching... (Click to View)

Jonny awakens in what appears to be a really tight, flat room or chest with no light whatsoever. After a few moments he notices that actually there is light off to the sides and after his rational mind kicks back in, he realizes he is laying below a bed of sorts. His head is aching heavyly, his mouth feels extremely dry and his stomach is grumbling all along. And he doesn't have the slightest clue how he probably got here or where he is in first place.

Massive 'Hang-Over'-like entrance always makes for a great introduction :3

"Holy sh*t", he groans.
"What the hell..."

Realizing that he most likely hasn't eaten or drunk in a pretty long time, Jonny attempts to remember what the heck he has been doing the past few days and weeks, to no avail. Obviously it couldn't have been anything extraordinarily healthy. The scent of something sharp passes through his nose, a rather uncomfortable smell for the average human nose.
After a few more minutes of lying and collecting his thoughts, he finally decides to roll over a little to the side of the bed and peek at whereever the source of light originates from. It would definitely not be the best move to just storm out of below the bed while, for example, residing in the clutches of cannibalistic kidnappers...

Moving closer to the edge of the bed, Jonny can spot more and more of the surrounding room. The light seems to originate from a window to his right. From his limited point of view, the room looks like a casually outfitted sleeping room.
The floor is covered by a plain grey carpet. There's a cupboard, a closet and a drawer, all which seem to be made of no particulary special wood. From below the bed, Jonny can spot two doors, one of them being slightly open and revealing a glimpse at some white tiles.

Seeing that there's nobody or nothing else in the room, Jonny slowly crawls out from under the bed and tries to get up on his feet. At first, he fails miserably, as he cannot properly feel his limbs yet due to the cramped position he's been lying in the past few hours, or days, or whatever. After two more minutes he finally manages to stay on his feet and can now properly look around the room. He also carefully listens to his surroundings for a while; assuming that Jonny is not hearing anything suspicious, he goes over to check out the contents of the cupboard, closet, drawer and also inspects the carpet a little closer.

The carpet looks a bit dusty and smuddly and has a 'old' smell to it, it probably hasn't been washed for a couple of weeks. The cupboards are mostly empty, merely containing a few old novels and minor magazines. The closet contains a few clothes, which Jonny can quickly recognize as his own ones. His guess confirms when he finds a few pieces of his own underwear in the drawers. Slowly it dawns upon him that this could be a hotel or hostel of sorts. The simple, and plain inventory of the room would confirm that guess.
As you move around, you notice that the ground in front of the window is covered in glass shards, presumably from the window glass, which is currently hidden behind a light curtain.

Note to unexperiences readers: The 'dawns upon him'-assumption is the result of a successfully secretly rolled INT-check. Characters with high INT/TUI will often note additional conclusions and correlations in scenery

Scavenge the underwear!!

Carefully navigating to the window, trying not to step on any of the glass shards, Jonny slowly pulls the curtains aside and glances through the window.

Looking outside, Jonny can see he is on a higher level, maybe on the 5th floor or a bit higher. In front of him, maybe twenty meters apart from his current position, is another wall. Apparently the building is shaped like a square around a small piece of garden. Counting the window rows, Jonny easyly determines that he is inside of an 8-story building. The sun isn't directly visible from his current outlook, but orange stripes across the sky indicate the day is nearing it's end.
For some reason, everything is awfully quiet and he can neither hear a bird, nor anything else.

Jonny goes back to inspect the room with the white tiles, which he presumes to be the bathroom. (And as needed take a whizz on the toilet.)

Begone for a while now! See ya later
