Well what can I say?
You really like that mystery and have wanna say: You have Your own style.
You just need to improove lil'bit Your first and second bg's. They need more details (?).

It's ok to make dark backgrounds, but the first one is definitely TOO dark. You can barely see anything in there. At least for me, it took some time to notice the ground and walls. Here, the word "highlighting" would fit better instead of "shading" :P
For the others: I see that you've become addicted to the Clouds-filter, eh? I for my part usually like to draw them or, when I'm not in the right mood, use a cloud photograph and "littlefighterize" it :P
It just doesn't look too realistic if you use the clouds filter like that

I personally like the 3rd one
Nice Gothic Scary scenery, i like it [improve bg spriting they are too simple]
The 4rth one has a nice sky.
You going to make a .gif from those 2?

nah, I'm not making a gif of those. They are mainly to test bg making so that in the future I can make much better bgs.
And i know that its too dark, I don't know what is with my computer. When I use the darkest colour in paint, there is a big difference to normal black. Thats why i made the last one brighter.
I just used cloud filter because I wanted to ask about the clouds, wether they are just taken from other pictures or self-made.
So, how do you littlefighterise or draw them?( I don't have photoshop. Atm I am using photofiltre, and as Alectric said paint.net is good, I will try that, too. I just hate GIMP)

I just hate GIMP) Well, in order to "littlefighterize" (what a lovely word ) stuff, I usually run a bunch of filters over it until it looks good. I can't really tell which filter I'm using as it varies from image to image. If you want to see with what you should end up with, take Brokeback_Cliff as a reference; study the brush strokes regarding color, opacity, sharpness, and so on. It will help you a lot.
Drawing is kinda... easy :P
Going from my way of doing it, I usually start out with a dark gray color, a big and fuzzy brush, and a low opacity (~7%) and draw random lines over and over again. Eventually, they'll form clouds. Sometimes, they don't look like clouds at all, so I'd have to start over again. No need to give up on the first try, just do it again. I'm pretty sure, there are easier ways of doing it but I'm honestly too lazy to search for them. I just like my method

i can tell just by looking at them, they wont fit in the lf2 screen. way too big.
also the one with the fog, you shouldnt put fog on the ground, it gives it a bad effect.
add a bit more detail to the ground, and make it more obvious.
the top cave one is good, though the others could use some work.
i hope you are using layers.

another background. Atm I am doing them pretty fast, so don't expect too much details. First I have to manage making good basic sprites.
Next thing i will do is making clouds( not with photofiltre . As far as i know I can't change the opacity of a brush in there...)
so here it is.
*deleted. Yeah, I hate seeing those old sprites. I tried some different shading techniques, but none of them looks really good. Don't know why. For the background I first wanted to make a cliff, but the shading was awful on such a big thing, so I just played around a bit with filters etc. Now you can look out of the rainforest into the desert.
Edit: Annoying white thing around the picture... Little Copy + paste mistake.
