You don't need hex-edits for that, just activate a weapon in stage mode that'll transform into a character. Weapons are independent by default, so if you make them transform, the resulting characters are also independent. And the best thing: you can set the weapon's (and with that the character's) hp in stagemode not just a general weapon_hp-value
