looks good, but maybe you could work a bit on the border of the planet in order to connect it with the flares? around it. Right now the sun seems to be far in front of them. Probably because of the light border. The flares? are good, but for me they seem unrealistic.( if they are supposed to be flares)
Did you want something like this?
Then the light parts should be near the sunplanet and the darker ones a bit away + they have a slightly different colour scheme( less yellow, I think)
(Well, maybe you had something completely different in mind which is supposed to look like it does...)
But otherwise nice work. I like the darker version better btw.

Yes, blending would be essential. The edge of the sun is way too sharp and is usually a relict when you spherize an object. Also, rich color-variations can be cool but if you really want to make a realistic sun-image, you should study other images; NASA/ESA-pictures as well as the sun seen by artists. Some examples include:
Always inform yourself before drawing something if you want to make it count ;)
