I gues it would be a good idea to test whether we can use it again.
Then redisable it if we cant.
But im not MH nor BP so its not my decision.
Age ratings for movies and games (and similar) have never been a good idea.
One can learn a lot from reinventing wheels.
An unsound argument is not the same as an invalid one.
volatile in C++ does not mean thread-safe.
Do not make APIs unnecessarily asynchronous.
Make C++ operator > again

For one, the same stupidity that caused it to be disabled will most probably come about again.
The rep system's original usage is to indicate which member is a highly respected member and who is the idiot, but in the first place, anyone who stays in these forums for long enough would already know who those people are, rendering that purpose null and thus making the whole system useless.
The rep system's alternate purpose is to thank a member for their work, whether in big or small ways, hence showing how much someone has done for the community for the time he had been registered until now. However, the thank system takes care of that already and allows members to just agree with a member without having to post it out again, preventing worthless posts like quoting an entire large post with a "I agree with X" without any further reasoning or add-ons. Also, since there is no negative thanks, if there is any problem, the opposing member would have to post their views (quoting the member they disagree with to make things easier) and give a good explanation why they disagree rather than saying a simple but worthless "I don't agree".
Also, the thank system is more clear-cut than the rep system and is less easily abused.
Blue Phoenix Wrote:Well, I've been thinking about it myself a few weeks ago and came to the following conclusion (which is why I didn't ask for a opinion-poll in here):- Abuse. Remember the deal we had before disabling the shizzle? People were asking for reps, in Gad's case he wanted to have the lowest rep of every member. I guess that's not the purpose.
- Immaturity. I don't want to question that, some members are behaving very mature but looking at the messages posted over the last week there were quite a few posters that were... let's call them "mentally impaired". What I mean is: they don't really know how to efficiently use this system. They go somewhere and say: "Wow, I kno u from xyz! Plz, rate me now, too!
". I'm sick of seeing this.
- Redundancy. Reputation system allows you to add one point to a member if he helps you. Regardless if he helped you once, twice, or more. The general helpfulness can't be really determined thus. The thank-system is way more accurate, by telling how often people thought, your post was helpful to others.
- Space. Some people have a larger profile-field than their posts are. Another line ( + another spacer-line)? No, thank you.
Final result: we really don't need the rep-sys, too many disadvantages.
As mentioned above, it's benefits are spoilt due to immaturity of some members. Though most have grown up a bit, I'd still argue against it with the following: - I rate you, you rate me: kinda like +1 for +1, and in some cases -1 for -1
- look you're starting a pretty project: +1. I actually do "suffer" from this quite a bit, though I would say that it's not the beginning of the project that would deserve the +, but the end product, and whether it helps/brings lasting enjoyment to other people. Like blowfly's FLight DCer, that's deserving of a rep coz it's actually useful. characters/sprites on the other hand are debatable (how long do u play a downloaded char for? 5 mins?).
- Thank system: again, as stated by BP, the rep system is kinda redundant with this in place. Thank system is indicative of someone's rep.
- Intuitive reputation: It's pretty obvious if you read people's posts, who is "liked" and who isn't, whose posts appeal to you and whose doesn't.

There isn't much more to say actually. Call me conservative, call me an idiot, I don't care. But as long I have a say, the rep-system will be kept disabled. My reasons are listed in Az's post. By now, I haven't seen a single forum in which the rep system has worked the way it was designed for. And, jfyi, the target groups of all forums together were 13-40 years.
