Solution to Minimize Bots
#21
Good heavens, Someone else to the rescue. Big blank spaces = something is there in most cases.

Also, I've registered multiple test-users and it worked fine (no, you won't find them as I deleted those accounts again). That guy might want to try hitting the "reload"-button of the captcha to generate a different one which is easier to read.

i decided to do more research...
and im curious more about the "Capcha"
the ones tht we currently have for our sign-up's are "reCAPTCHA"
which is the typical captcha tht u hafta read
i found out there are 3 other types of Capcha's

-reCAPTCHA
distinguishing digitalized text [OLD]

[/spoiler]
-SQ-PIX
you trace the object in a PIC [NEW]

i actually like the idea of the second kind of captcha.
Problem is, you have already posted that you don't have the html code. That invokes in bp and the rest of the forum-team, the answer no. Pretty much everybody (e.g bp and me) live after the princip "does it require work? Yes => No."
Oh and alectric is totally right, calm a little bit down, I appreciate your concern but we can handle that ;)

Finding the corresponding code isn't that hard. Just recently, I have spent two nights on creating a functioning captcha. Everything is possible with the right amount of work. However, it does require tons of work and bug-testing which is a good reason for "No.".

Old, yes but it does what it is supposed to do.
Its used a lot of places and it is well known.
It takes some time to write a bot that cracks it.

Its newer but it has some mayor problems.
It uses flash not good for devices where you cant install flash on.
Or maybe if you use a device that hasnt got any mouse.
I doubt it would work on a PS3.
Plus I remember trying one and it took about 50 times as long than filling in a reCAPTCHA form.
Especially since I failed at it once even though I actually did what I was supposed to do.
Also I think this might be easier to hack that reCAPTCHA.

I like the idea it wasnt too hard to fill in.
Should be just to hard to hack as reCAPTCHA.
Its rather big and ugly but other than that it should be useful.

But as Phil stated "does it require work? Yes => No.", and for the reCAPTCHA there are plug-ins for MyBB that installs it directly into MyBB without having to modify any code.
I dont think its the same when it comes to the other two CAPTCHAs.
Age ratings for movies and games (and similar) have never been a good idea.

hmmmmm..... [in hopes to feel useful]
well i guess we can forget tht idea .... for now
i also got another idea [still running around in panic] :P
ummm...you guys could make a quiz for registering users
(the actual questions are captcha's but want simple one worded answers)
this would definitely work asking LF2 Kind of Questions rather than just General
I'm estimating 95% of members know about LF2 thts why they joined in the 1st place...
The Questions should be on a separate page [without telling them they got it right or not]
An email should be sent with the results along with the "Verify Account Code"
this sounds good to me? :)
(edit)I am willing to learn the Code...if someone has free time too?
it will keep me occupied in the mean time...

a) You are discussing this in a public section
b) We have a good and active forum team that loves to ban bots
c) The amount of bots that have joined in the last month has dramatically gone down
d) Your suggestion require not only a lot of work but a metric crapton of work. You know the result already.
e) To sum it up: No.

f) tl;dr: No.
