help needed to install new char

i am not able to install matt, luke skywalker,& obi wan can someone help

i.e. others have data\char_name
these have sprite\luke\luke .dat
when i changed the path it gives me the erroe couldn't create art surface

actually tell me the reason why you changed the path...

For the installing of characters from LFE you only have to copy the folder sended to LF2-Directory and copy the object-lines to data.txt - that's it... there's nothing to change...

copy all the sprites and datas and make a folder called luke and put it in the data folder and then even if it says sth such as sprite\luke\luke .dat it will work once u paste it in the dat

ok, usually, every lfe-download should contain a readme-file with instructions what goes where.

For example, a readme could look like this:

Create a new folder called "asdf" in the sprites folder and place all the graphics in there.
Place all the .dat-files in the data-folder
Go to data\data.txt and add the following lines:
id: 400 type: 0 file: data\asdf.dat
id: 401 type: 3 file: data\asdf_ball.dat

That's actually pretty easy, just follow the instructions of the readme, and you'Ve your step-by-step instruction

What does the readme say?
I can't help you very much because I don't know what the instructions are.

And I guess, you forgot to add the lines in data.txt to "activate" the character.

Well I have added the lines to the data.txt and it say theirs a problem and shuts down. The readme says Installation:
- Move the sprite-folder and the data-folder into your LF2-directory
- Add these lines to data.txt (to the object-part):

id: 29 type: 0 file: sprite\luke\luke.dat
id: 360 type: 3 file: sprite\luke\luke_ball.dat
