widescreen unused space
#1
ok
so what silva really needs now for his widescreen project is a well thought through idea of what will happen with the unused blank space you get from making the screen wider (next to the hp/mp bars)

because centering all the menus and fixing camera names and whatnot for a certain width is something noone wants to do twice just because a better idea has emerged that requires a different width

i myself am against moving the status bars below the characters btw because everyone is just too used to having them static up there in lf2 (its refreshing for new games - but this is still a project for the original lf2)
means that topic is not up for discussion in this thread

the black area right next to the status bars however is

i think it should mostly display useful information you require during the fight
preferably dynamic things
for now ive only mockup designed one of my ideas that should work for all modes (with a lil extra for stage mode)

in all modes the area on the top right should imo display the face picture of one of the fighters - in my case the leading/best fighter
i would determine that by kills and (in case many have the same amount of kills) attack/damage ratio

this could lead to some fun real time competition when you play stage mode together - or are simply competing in the same team
and here the extra for stage mode

as soon as a boss appears he gets displayed - along with his hp
switching back to the leading character of your team once youve defeated him

now it could also have different information
any ideas/suggestions?
would be best if you also try to make a mock design so we get a feeling on how wide it will need to be in total (if we have different features for different modes)

Just a question, what is going to happen if there are 2 or more bosses? will only the strongest one displayed, the first/last one who apeared, it splits into two face pics and bars or the hp bar is going to show the hp's of all existing bosses, etc.?

I am FOR dynamic statics like:
Where are you fighting?
Strongest boss?
Team member with the highest kills/damage(made)?
who comes next?
A little text under the who comes next like:
Julian.
Beware of getting near to him or he will blast you away :P.
or:
Really hard to make.
a static where you see which buttons where pressed/which moves you performed.
and a changing key would be cool so you can change beetween the statics. otherwise it will just change after some seconds.

etc etc etc
would make it really cool
something like a HUD

i would prefer either cycling or only the one with most hp (or possibly only the 'actual' boss - ie louisex/firzen/julian, but i dont know how you could realize that)
depends on what silva can do i guess

could you visually arrange some of these?
i dont quite know what 'where are you fighting?' for example should look like

Imagine a schematic mini-map on the top-right corner with black dots symbolizing others, red dots you and purple dots bosses, for example. That's what came up for me, at least.

The under bars was good...
In white space make hp of boss, is best solution.
(in case of two boss, make the little hp)

What about some kind of text the characters are speaking, a bit like the idea of Hacker? I'm not too interested in my statistics as I see them in the end and in my opinion it is more interesting when you don't know how much hp the boss exactly has( though you can guess because you see the hp of the army)
So what I would recomment:
Boss: Julians face, next to it: Prepare to die! Muhaha! (or whatever)
Sometimes after a kill: Take that! or Die, servant of the dark! (or again whatever)
Louis transformation: I don't need that armor to kill you! ( *points upwards*)
1/3 hp( face with blood): --- Well, I guess you get the idea.
The problem would be that it is quite a lot of work and probably also not easy. The second best thing would be the statistic in my eyes. Especially as YinYin has a good point with the competition( though the fighters have to be about the same level for that)
About the map: I don't think it is too helpful. If you had a first or third-person perspective it would be useful, but with the LF2-perspective I almost always know where everybody is.

I prefer some stats up there. Possible ideas to fill up that space:

- Attack/Kill/HP-Lost-counter. Something like the real-time version of the stats showing up after a fight. In a smaller form, ofc.
- Boss HP. If multiple bosses, there need to be multiple lines, one for each boss (assuming that you don't have to fight like 5k bosses at the same time)
- Random info. "Kill to advance." - " opponents left (x on screen, y in reserve)" - "xy:zt mins played" - whatever

Personal favorite is the solution YinYin mentioned in post #1.

"Freeze, you're under vrest!" - Mark, probably.
