Making BG's is one of my favourite things to do, and i was curious as to what kind of things people want in a BG.

Wide open spaces? or just a small amount of space?
lots of visual effects? or not?

i usually make BG's just for looking at, and not really optimised for fighting.

please tell me your opinions!

It would be nice to have more BGs that depict ACTUAL REAL WORLD PLACES. But in a cartoon style.

Usually I like visual effects...

i would say a one with little space (anywhere from 794 to a low value
and average z width (100 pixels to 175)
it also should have lots of effects like skeletons on the floor etc to make it look like its the final battle between two armies / people

i think alectric makes the best bg's in the forum (thats my opinion)
beside i like bg's with some cool effects and original stuff.

hi, I think a good effects and animations ar really good, but thats really needed a great background cause after some time, always the same animations animating an "empty" background becomes tiring

Well, I mostly like non-pixelated and spacy BGs.
But not too detailed, cuz' then when you see the BG you are all like "ZOMG/SPARTA/OWN4G3/whatever!!!111" and then you hear the music and realize that your enemy has beaten the crap outta you

Well I like background with cool animation and stuff, but what I like even more is that some one fights in the background while you fight.
Most of the times I'm good with an original background and not a lot of animation.
Also I had an idea of making a background that you are on a train and its moving.

My definition of the perfect background would be as follows:
You are fighting others in a beautiful landscape which looks extremely real, almost indistinguishable from reality. Certain effects pep this up even more.

Cool animations and effects;
Lots of z-axis movement, and big areas for fighting;
lots of beautiful scenery and sprites, while beating down opponents.
