web hosting?
#1
well i've wanted to put a website up for a while now, but havent really been able to because im not really sure how. My ISP will host my website for me but i want to know a few things before i do.

How easy is it to update the website? do i need to send them the updated thing each time, or does it read of a source and i can modify that source and it will change immediately?

that one is pretty much the big one, but another question is that does my first question depend on the ISP or do all webhosts provide the same service?
Is it better to go to somewhere and make a website on the web for free?
do i need to send them the html thing through email or something?

if i make like a picture gallery, would it be better to upload the pictures to imageshack/whatever and just link them to it?

which format would be better, html, flash, php, java script...etc, i only really know html, and a bit of java script.

basically, i mainly want to know the first one more, because im planning on updating the website almost frequently.

Depending on the ISP.

Nope, all webhost and ISPs are different.

Most likely not.
Some uses a inline html web editor and a inline file uploader(like webs), some only supports one and some needs you to upload through mail or FTP(file transfer protocol).

Deppending on how many images you have and how many storage space you have.
If you have unlimited storage space then keep then on the site but if you only have like 50mb then avoid big images on the webserver and upload them somewhere else.

Depending on the host, not all allows php while most allows flash, html, and javascript.
If posibble use php.
Also any flash website has a lot of html files on their page linking to flash files and javascript files are loaded by html pages.
Age ratings for movies and games (and similar) have never been a good idea.
One can learn a lot from reinventing wheels.
An unsound argument is not the same as an invalid one.
volatile in C++ does not mean thread-safe.
Do not make APIs unnecessarily asynchronous.
Make C++ operator > again

-> I would suggest not to go to services like freewebs where you get a website template, it's better to have real webspace and use a cms like joomla to create a website. Gives you a lot more opportunities and it looks better in the end...

that one is pretty much the big one, but another question is that does my first question depend on the ISP or do all webhosts provide the same service?

-> no

Is it better to go to somewhere and make a website on the web for free?
do i need to send them the html thing through email or something?

-> if you have somebody who create a website for free you`re the lucky guy. I also create websites but for lil money, or you really try it yourself and learn into a cms which is not to hard...

if i make like a picture gallery, would it be better to upload the pictures to imageshack/whatever and just link them to it?

-> omg, if you want a professional website it`s a must to store your files yourself and not at other hosts!!!

which format would be better, html, flash, php, java script...etc, i only really know html, and a bit of java script.

-> flash is bad with google, google has technology to read flash sites, too, but it's not so advanced as far as I know. Java applets are bad and... old school somehow :p php/html is the best, that's why I suggest a cms, you don`t need to know php and you have a WYSIWYG Editor to edit your content or can use html for it...

basically, i mainly want to know the first one more, because im planning on updating the website almost frequently.

-> If you really want a professional website then you should pay somebody to create it , if you don't have money try to learn yourself like I did... Joomla CMS is a good way to start in my opinion. If you have more questions you can contact me on msn...
