Drawing Sprites
#1
Hi Everyone

I'm new to the community, :) . I want to start my Modding in LF2 and I was wondering how to start a sprite. I guess I could take the files located in the sprite folder, rename them and make a new char.

But I was wondering, do I need to draw the character so many times? I'm thinking it would take years :( . Is there any kind of tricks I could use so it doesn't take too long to finish my char?

I don't know how to start from zero anything, so I guess I will just rename stuff to make my first character. Thanks

You have to make certain sprites for your char to work normally in LF2 (default sprites), but if you want it to take less time, you can use the template or Alectric's Ultimate Template, which is an advanced version of normal template. Template already has a base so you can just add details on it.
You can start by recoloring existing chars, then drawing over a template and when you think you are skilled enough, try drawing poses from scratch.

Technically, the lf2-sprites are 140+ times the same image. It doesn't take years but spriting is a long a tedious work. You can copypaste things, though, to speed up the process. For example, a good example is what I recently saw in LutiChris's thread:
Making those elements at first helps a whole lot as you can simply copypaste those into the spritesheets then. If I remember correctly, Nanaya used this technique. Drawing body elements at first and then recycling them multiple times in spritesheets. So yeah, it does help if you apply this method.

Welcome to LFE, btw.

Thanks for answering my questions, so I guess I'll have to draw everything after all.

@Divisor: I'll look for those templates, thanks. Yes, about recoloring chars I though of it as well ;)

@BluePhoenix: That helps, I could do that. For the moment I belive I will modify a current char, copy and paste all he's info, rename him and modifiy different things, and I'll slowly start chaning more complex things when i get to then if I have enough knowledge. Thanks for the welcome btw :)
