[Discussion] Reply to senseless topics
#1
There have been many new members posting topics that make no sense, or posting projects that aren't of decent quality. Recolered, enhanced characters, posted in a topic without a proper description, screenshots and sometimes there is nothing to show at all. I think this is pretty annoying.

However, what irritates me even more, is the fact that so many members keep replying to these topics. It's almost certain that there will be a discussion in the topic. Not so strange, because it is annoying after all. But please, not only you guys scare the new members away, you also work on the nerves on the active members, at least on mine.

I myself replied to such topics several times, but stopped doing so. Because the only thing we guys reach by posting replies like "this character aint so good", "please post screenshots" or "what is this anyway?", is that the new member, who is probably very enthousiastic about his character, will feel bad about it. And this will be his first impression of LFE. So why would he stay on such a forum?

I think we really should stop replying if you don't know how to put it. I think it's best to leave this to the moderators and admins. Please share your opinion.

ME too. Even though I keep posting, I really have stopped my temptation to an extent I believe. I really agree with Neocrypt.

This was talked about between the VIP's/Mods/Admins when the rules were being reformed. This is exactly what the "back seat moderation" rule was supposed to stop. It was even enforced for a while, but yeah. No one bothers enforcing it any more(I think, I'm not super active here any more), and when we did it enforce it people complained and sh*t.

So what about this:
Newcomer posts thread, presents himself. Gets some senseless posts. He either gets scared away or stays and tries harder.
That way there would be a selection of "good" and "bad" people. So isn't that behavior actually good for getting new productive people?

I'm not saying that I'm very fond of this... uh... pattern. Actually, I absolutely agree with you, Neocrypt. But since the title says [Discussion] I thought I'd post something.

Also, sometimes posts like "How to up the wall" are just begging for a matching reply.

I usually only post if I got something useful to say. Usually some sort of extremely evil-sarcastic constructive critic :O

Don't exactly bother with this sort of behavior from other users, compared to MCF (what i'm used to), it's quite nothing.

First of all, there is nothing to be complained about such topics. If somebody don't like some topics,he/she can just read them,or even skip them from reading.~Agree with NeoCrypt

Well, when I came in LFE I was enthusiastic about my chars, but in other members eyes, they were not real new characters.I didn't felt good about that, even there were not aggressive replies, but just a dislike about my chars. And what new members feel, when they got demoralize replies? ~In this part i agree with NeoCrypt.

I think the best way to post in such kind of threads,is to post an useful post. This post can be posted by any member and this member, explain everything to newbie (by explaining, with words or/and by links of some threads).
This is usually what I do when I post in those threads, but most of the time I don't post as i am not that much active here.Sometimes I feel a few bad when nobody make a good/useful/proper reply.

I don't know how you all think, but I agree on this, and strongly think, that THIS SHOULD BE ENFORCED (with our globals being afk or moderating random image of the day thread, instead of real topics... ._.).
Please? :D

well the thing is that they mostly get scared away because nobody tells them what to do, but instead what they did wrong. now this is nothing bad, telling people what they do wrong is supposed to help them do it right. but if somebody only gets negative responses, not even a welcome to the forums btw ;) or something positive in any matter, he obviously wont think that the people in this forum are capable of giving proper advises or help or anything, so they leave the forum.

sure, not everybody would react like that, but a vast majority seems to.
