Maximum frames loadable by the .exe
#1
Is there a limit to the number of frames loadable by the .exe?
I'm not talking about the 400 frame limit for a single .dat file, I'm referring to a combination of all .dat files.

I'm asking this because all of a sudden my game gets an error while loading. It's not the usual error that tells you the problem, this is a general windows program failure message. I tried removing some .dat files from data.txt and that fixes the problem.

Could this be another issue or am I correct in assuming that it's the game program reaching it's limit of how many frames it can store across all .dat files?

Any help would be appreciated.:D

its closer tied to how much data it can read in at once before it flushes to load the next stuff
sometimes its enough to move the data line of the file it crashed on to the very top to be loaded first
sometimes you just have too many bdy/itr/etc areas/points within one frame

i am not quite able to investigate this properly myself but this is my experience

Well it's definitely nothing to do with an error inside one particular .dat because I have tried taking one out, and putting another in its place, trying numerous combinations..... and everything is fine as long as they are not ALL in at once.

I have 4 gigs of RAM and the entire LF2_v2.0a folder is only 511mb, so I don't see how that is the problem.

Since you have 2.0a, the limit of dat files is 300 or 500. Also i as far as i know there is not any limit of max frames the exe can load, i am saying that u can put 400 in every dat file. Have you tried to delete some dat files from data.txt and then delete some other ones? The problem might be in dat files.

I encountered a similar problem as well. When I used a data changer other than Jiquera's classic one to write data files and put them in data.txt, the exe ALWAYS crashed while loading the particular data file.

@davis60
If you are asking me, then I would say it simply crashes without any notice.

Some times this error occurs with me.. if you already checked bdy/itr/etc areas/points try to remove some sounds... Too much sounds cause this problem...

No, its a standard windows error message.

This is not a typo in a .dat file.
