So i really have to ask...

I can't possibly sign this petition because doing so would make me a hypocrite. Not because I eat dog (I never would, I love dogs), but because they have a different culture than our own and attempting to join in on something to change the way they live would just be wrong as I would never want anybody to do that to me. If China was to make a petition to stop us from eating Americanized Chinese food and it reached more signatures than this is trying to reach, would I stop eating it? No I would not, would you? If every practitioner of Hinduism signed a petition for the American government to stop the American people from eating cows (which they view as holy), would I want them to make it illegal to eat cow? No, I would not.

I'm not going to become a vegetarian.

Where do we cross the line? Are we just going to pick and choose what meat is okay to eat? How is signing a petition going to stop these types of people from doing more harm. I doubt the chinese government is going to do anything about it even if there was 1 million signatures. If we succeed they are still going to go out and find other animals to torture, steal and kill. I'm sure the LCU is doing everything in their power so that animals can be treated with the compassion and respect. But when there is supply and demand, there will always be people that go ahead and do it. That's why there's a black market for substances, child trafficking, weapons, etc.

Objectively they are still animals and the only thing different about them would be their biology. Same thing with us, we are not so different from them. We know they feel pain. However, I guess one can argue that they are treated differently. While we use different methods they are eventually enslaved against their will to die . Imagine if we put human beings in their situation. Chickens are killed in factories supplying KFC and other multi chain restaurants. Just like dogs and any other animals supplying those types to restaurants. I think it's possible over time when people are educated about the torturing of animals thanks to social media sites. But until then it's going to be very difficult to eradicate something so prominent in a society when most of the population are meat eaters.

lol not ready to switch over to being a vegetarian any time soon. But this whole meat eating thing; wouldn't the humanity as a whole stopping meat impact the ecosystem in some way? (possibly negatively too)

It is good to give it some thought. Now that we're on the subject of meat: it would be great to have people realize that what they eat - or throw away - is an animal. I do eat meat as I think it fits a tdiet, but I never waste even the smallest parts. It also really annoys me to see how much meat other people waste, especially restaurants (have to) do it a lot.

Another thing I personally hate quite much are those typical bodybuilders who do anything to grow. Bodybuilding diets consist of about 40% calorie intake coming from protein. It's not uncommon to see bodybuilders eat 600 grams of meat/fish every single day as it is on of the best protein sources. The really big ones can go way over a kilogram of meat per day. I think its very selfish to eat so much meat/fish.

In the Netherlands, eating bugs is gaining popularity slowly. Yes, these are also animals, but as far as we know, insects don't have a brain or simply respond automatically to their environment and senses, yet without thinking it thr ough like we humans would. It think it could be a great alternative to eating meat in the future. I haven't tried the bugs yet though, its hella expensive still (and it groses me out a bit honestly but I'll try when it gets cheaper)

I strongly disagree about this belonging here, cause this is exactly the kind of stuff that doesn't. Traditionally activist bullsh*t hasn't been a thing here, why would this be otherwise? I didn't look at the link, but honestly, I don't need to, I'm pretty sure I can imagine the material. It's a shock reaction these people are trying to fish from the audience(?) as a cheap way to help their cause. This just is utterly pointless. Besides, I don't understand why would a NSFW (cause I'm fairly sure it is bloody) link of this sort ever be justified.

This could be a topic for discussion, however, I don't think the link belongs, as it doesn't serve any sensible purpose.
Now, I tried reporting this as soon as I saw it. Unfortunately, the button didn't work, so there's that. This post could have been avoided without that, but eh, it is what it is.

As for the topic itself, I'm not even touching it, because I'd be repeating a lot of what has been said. What I will say though, is that these kinds of petitions/links/shock value bullsh*t shouldn't have a place anywhere, especially considering it never works anyway. Animal violence is a bad thing, but there's f*** all you can do about it.

Oh, and "this isn't advertisement" is a false statement through and through. This is exactly that, advertisement.
