Captcha the Bots!
#11
Actually i don't like any kind of captcha method since they tend to be a challenge to read. Additional, often i encountered "Capital letters are not required" (or however its in english) though you actually need to differ between capital and usual letters...

I'm fine with anything but captcha... though... i actually dont need to register here anyways (anymore) XD

The best part is that they have the same ip.
Actually they all had a link at their signature before, and that previous bot didn't. That made me really confused, because, well, looking at his ip: there was nobody found. So yea, I don't have very big arguments - I could've banned a human

There was captcha before new years, and long time they didn't register. Except the bot after new year...

Maybe they've created new bot tipe, after new years? Anyone agree?

Not if you do it with sceneries! Or maybe your blind... then everything's hard to "read".

I just state, that a couple of O,o,0 and 8 could may be mistaken when they cross each other, additionally rotated by 90 degrees sometimes...

Btw, what is the meaning of "sceneries"?

I just looked at our captcha... It looks easy to OCR. I wouldn't be surprised if they had OCR functions designed especially for captcha purposes.

You have three pictures with radiobuttons below them: a desert, an aeroplane and a waterfall.
The instruction would be "Select the picture with the aeroplane."

I don't think bots could OCR those.

actually creating captchas is highly advanced PHP stuff - it requires a lot of experience to do something like that. This is why there`re only a few good captcha-systems - we use this one: http://recaptcha.net/

Not sure, but should be good enough. I`m not sure when these bots you talk about now registered, if they regstered in the last few weeks we still have to worry...

I think simo told me the last bot registered after new years.
And anyway, I'm positive that a captcha with pictures (not words) is probably as easy as our LFE ad thing and also easier than our current captcha system. And I'm probably wrong as I don't know PHP.

afaik, it's also used on facebook.

  • CAPTCHA ~ is there
  • CAPTCHA but not with words ~ is there
  • Some general knowledge question about Little Fighter 2 ~ as MH said, captchas are advanced stuff, so I fear that this option will vanish out.

So far, there are 32 bots on our black list. So don't think that there are just a few...
By the way, it seems that there are occasional bot-floodings. A couple weeks ago, there wasn't only the bot-flood on LFE but also on 4chan. I can imagine that a bunch of other sites were affected. So this seems to be a global problem.

There's just one thing for sure: if you see a thread titled with "Your favorite xyz", be cautious. It is better to directly report the thread than answering those posts. Let the threads die / disposed.

well, as far as I can see we still have the bot problem - tell me if I`m wrong.

I browsed several other forums and saw that they use questions - like "who`s the creator of LF2" (in our cases) - I think of adding one question like this in case I find a quick plugin for this - if one of the guys out there wanna help with the search:
we`re using Mybb 1.4
