Hmm let's get right to the point..
i never heard for him but his skin might be too brown..
bit more details in shading make some wrinkles, more contrast( i miss it, ussualy i like more contrast so might be just me(my taste))
those things which blablabla said and you dont have to check out ONLY tutorial to learn something about spriting and art generally.. you can learn many things with only attentive observation images!
well, open sprite from some great spriter(you have many of them here) and look for things you might change add to make it more similar.gif ";)")
i like to doing it.
