From what i've read, it sounds like he wants to know the max the screen size of LF2, not "ANYTHING".
you probably dont want to make the image/bubble any bigger than 800 (height) x 550 (width) in pixels, or edges will be cut off.

The best way to figure out the best option is to experiment!

Generally, it's recommendable (for purely aesthetic means) to have speech bubbles not exceed sizes larger than 300x200px. Of course, you may go bigger, but that would be more like reading a story rather than a comic-like interaction. As for state 9997, it has the issue of only displaying 80 pixels (width-wisely) if the bubble is off-screen on the right side; the left side will show everything. However, when you go for actual conversations in there, it'd be best to show where the bubble actually comes from, aka. don't make them pop up off-screen too often.
