well, i use photofilter and mspaint, but i work most with paint.
So: M-S-PAINT!

Its no joke, its very ease to use, but no Antialasing, sometimes for more complex things I use GIMP.
However, I sprite very less, because I have almost no spriting skill, just DC skill
