Login name / Display name

When you become a member, you create a login name. This name is used later as a display name. Could it not be changed so that you also could type in a display name too? instead of using the login name.
I don´t want the chaos from the old forums of constant name changes, just the ability to choose a display name different from your login name.
This is mainly in case somebody wants specific capitals in their name.
Example:
Displayname: ChAOsloRd
Loginname: chaoslord
Does anybody understand what i mean?

What i meant was to be able to type in a displayname only upon registering, not to be able to change it anytime. If you wanna change later, it´s PMing an admin.

hmmm, yea, the problem is, that this option must be deeply in the code. since there isn't such an option in the control panel, it must be changed manually. and our coding knowledge for the forums is hovering around 0. I, for example, have never touched these filetypes before, and right now I'm pretty much slammed with a syntax-highlighter for DC-code. so yea, we won't edit any hard code, since the chance is too high to smash up the forums. we'll need to leave it as it is, sorry

hm, but why do you want to have different display and usernames if you can't chage them anyways? I'm confused - your username so far isnt that hard to type in, why should it be different? to save accounts from hacking? then I suggest you use a password better then 1234

I think he's trying to say something like:

Login name: spyder
Display name: STM1993

The login name is used to login. The display name is who you appear to be in the forums. BUT, you CANNOT both names without an admin's permission.

Also, anyone(or at least admins and mods) can check someone's login name by just checking his profile or even looking at his posts, since it would show both login name and display name.

Or maybe it's
Login name: stm1993
Display name: STM1993

Allowed to type without caps. I'm not very sure.


I think the reason why people suggest this is because, some people have pretty complicated names, and wouldn't want to type in those complications when logging in.

But still, it's also pointless anyway. You don't have to have a fanciful name to be a good/famous member in the forums. Besides, lots of name changing can be annoying. Yes I used to change my name a lot, but I'm staying as STM1993, that's who I've been known as throughout the time I've spent on the internet.
