must there be a projectile involved? can't it be more boxing related?
Its still boxing related.. somewhat. You'll see.
Besides, its a projectile like Justin's one. where it fades after some distance. So, it won't feel too range-ish.

2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

well still, there should be atleast ONE character without magic, powers, flashy lights or projectiles...
a cool guy with fast and strong punch combos only would be cool, too

but... but... flashy lights is the only thing worthwhile spriting!!!
lol.
Yea, I thought about that, but Joe wouldn't survive in the HQ universe without flashy powers. There will likely be a bunch of other characters without flash powers, but they'll probably have stuff like armor or weapons to make up for it. (aesthetically and thematically, not necessarily gameplay-wise)
EDIT:
Anyway, minor status update: Joe's sprites are complete now. Left with polishing, and DC work to be done. Hoo boy.. just thinking of all the wpoint fixes needed is enough to turn me off.
I hate DCing. freaking tiresome.

lol. I always thought designing the sprite itself is the only exciting thing.
Anyways, nice sprites, as always ;D

I hate DCing. freaking tiresome. If you want (and Azriel allows it) I could DC that dude, I really want to do something different as all this NTSD work I usually do, and HQ is such a cool game
you can ask other ppls, I'm pretty advanced and promise I'll dc him perfectly without bugs or anything
(my name is even written in bold, that means I'm an advanced dc'er, yay^^)
but if you want to do that by yourselfe, then never mind :P

These days I look like I'm a Spriter-only partly coz I haven't done any serious DC work under the alias Sieg, and partly coz I haven't really been contributing to the DC discussions these days anymore. (More often than not i'm satisfied with the basics now, I'm more interested in simple-but-deep gameplay design than gameplay feature extension in DC, if you get what i mean.)(In other words I suck at DC now compared to the guys who are on the forefront of DCing.)
And on the sprites, now the challenge is to one up it with Frozen. I probably wouldn't stand for doing a Frozen of Joe's quality, I'd burn it myself, lol. (I rushed through alot of Joe's frames for HQ's recent release.)

I've no doubt about that. But I have this nasty habit of really liking to have everything about a character done by myself. It stems from my "Jack of All trades" mindset and ability I suppose.
Though I suppose when I get pissed off enough by the DC work I'll eventually ask someone for help. haha.

Good work on the character Siegvar, but has anyone noticed - this thread has only slightly rubbed it in that HQ is private and that alot of people can't access it? Maybe the HQ posts should be in HQ?
No offence intended Siegvar - You rubbed it in real good xD

main point if you don't want to read the fine details:
I don't speak unless necessary.
I haven't been posting little update notifications in the public HQ thread because I know it isn't very exciting to see "chars can hold weapons now" or "t3s can chase now" etc., and the things that actually matter like "hold_<a/j/d>:" would usually only receive posts like "cool" if they receive any posts at all.
the HQ thread is right now at the very bottom of the first page of the projects (this) section (since the release 6 days ago). There's even a link to it in my sig, which I update each time I make a proper post there. Useful general discussion hasn't been happening here, so i took it to the chinese forum instead (though it's been quiet there since i haven't put in any new stuff while fixing old stuff). not saying I need replies, but just trying to reduce the "this is a private thing" atmosphere, though I would like to state that currently we're not taking new people on board to work on the project (not targeting you nave, but trying to reduce "management" work for now).
I've advertised the HQ blog enough, and this is probably the last time I will until I make some giant leap in progress. Updates will be placed there, and leave comments if you like.
Azriel~

HQ's chars are usually compatible with normal LF2.
This basically is a character thread, for a character in the "mod" called HQ.
Plus it slipped my mind. haha. Well.. eventually HQ will be public instead of private. Its only the minor progresses that are private.
