What is high quality?

I see sometimes people say its hq.
But some people dont say that.
So what is hq for you? Maybe some examples?

I'm not going to lie, when I came back to this forum a week ago I saw your posts on your sprite thread about HQ sprites and I thought you guys were talking about Harlequinn aka Sheldee.

I was so confused but then I realized that you guys were talking about high quality.

To me, high quality sprites are sprites that are detailed and look nice. Like the lf2 sprites are pretty HQ to me, my own sprites aren't hq at all. they are standard quality. Apoc's sprites are HQ! AND IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT TODAY IS HIS BIRTHDAY!

To me only overly detailed sprites with very few or no flaws.
Apocs or Siegvars latest sprites.

LF2 sprites are definitely not high quality. They have very few details and they are flawed. I still prefer them.
They are a great compromise between looking good and still being reasonably easy to create.
Also their shapes are much easier to spot and identify in a hectic crowded battle.
Too many details can quickly distract from what a single character is actually doing.
(right next to looking great this is what's important for the game)

edit: I first thought you'd be talking about Hero Quest. Considering Apoc and Siegvar designed the characters for it so far that's not entirely wrong I guess.
I think we should drop this high quality term. It doesn't have much use with so many different opinions. Better describe what you think of a sprite in detail.

So what is hq for you?

A strongly overrated term. In that case, I will have to go with YinYin (yay, ambiguity!): it's way too subjective to be of good use. Those that have hung out around here for a while know fairly well who's capable of dishing out good sprites. To hop onto the bandwagon, too: a "sprite by Siegvar" sounds much more catching than an "hq sprite", doesn't it?

Let the work speak for itself instead of speaking for your work.
