Well I guess me and mgccl had different ideas for this. I just want to find out where player names are stored and where the character id's are stored so you can make a proper lf2 replays database which autoanlyzes the replay files. Editting the actual button sequnces pressed = bad.

it's bad if it's in a bad person's hand... and yes it's for my recording website... I wasn't intending using it to change sequences, just listing the benefit it may cause.

sounds better, but the csv can be edited right ? :p

Hello I'm back, but in the midst of my exams.

Hacking the lfr files? That's like trying to doctor with the replays and create lots of fakes and cheating. Besides, one thing there's one thing there which is pretty good, which is the summary.

There's one thing I dislike though, I have to play the entire thing just to see one part of a replay.

What I suggest is, instead, create a better demo player, so we can like scroll to certain areas (like I want to look at 1.20min of a 5 minute-long replay, I can just fast-forward or scroll over to 1.20min). Just that, nothing else. This + the summary thing would be enough. I think this should only be released etc after the competition though. This way you can't possibly hack the lfr files and create fakes, but at the same time it can take away some inconvenience. If you want to put multiple demos together, you'd have to record it in another format.

And the Demo doesn't have the same camera function as in the playback. Maybe that could be added in if a future version comes out again.

Playing back replays will only ever be done by the original lf2, since the replay only remembers the random seed assigned to each battle and what buttons are pressed. And creating a 100% exact replica of lf2 would be impossible (we have no idea how physics works, how the random seed is generated, how the random seed is then used by everything). Skipping parts of the replay would also be impossible (if my theory is correct), since lf2 won't know what happened during those parts. Only way to create a "skipping" effect is by speeding up lf2 so much that all those frames pass by almost instantly.

Of course I could be wrong, and the replay feature was implemented in a really smart way.

Hmm, looks like if you were to record a video you'd still have to use a recording program instead of the replay function. Which makes modded stuff impossible to copy. Nice.

Alright, so I guess here's the rule in future:

1. To make replays of official competitions or other demonstrations etc of the original LF2 v2.0, use the replay function in LF2 v2.0.

2. For recording videos or from other versions, use a recording program.

3. If you wish to see only one part of a replay or have the original replay editted with stuff, you must record the progress with a recording program and then alter the video to your liking.

4. For official LF2 competitions, it must be in the .lfr format. Otherwise, it would be regarded as invalid and possible cheating.

From the lfr-file you can create a csv which tells you the final result of each lfr compiled. This makes it faster to get the information desired (as long as you don't care about the video). Just that the csv looks kinda chaotic... dunno if it's only on my computer but I have all the information in the first column whihc makes it rather hard to follow along...
And since I assume that it's impossible to change the lfr-csv-converter I must assimilate to that system :P

Anyways, modded version must be recorded as a real video, since you need to have the same data/sprites to replay it correctly. Regular games should be, for size's sake, recorded in lfr-format. Except if you plan to upload it to some site like Youtube... but I guess that statement was kinda redundant :P

I actually don't believe that you could skip parts of the video because the whole video is just a mess of code which depends on the previous frame. If you skipped them, LF2 wouldn't know how to continue replaying as important information is missing. Just accelerating, like Silva mentioned, is possible.
