ok..tested it out and just have one point to criticise.. after a short time playing on this bg your eyes are hurting like hell...in order to avoid this "eye killer" u could maybe figure out the part u are moving on with your char a little bit simpler

Why the torii and sky frames have a black area in their sprites? =o
(It's not a tip to the current bg look but rather to "clean" the sprites)
Also nice job on the torii wood texture =D

They are two different contest. Mainly because in 13th Zone if your bg isn't related to nature you can't enter.

what you should do is making the back trees smaller than the front ones. IMO it just doesn't look right

but think like this: it's a mountain with the trees growing upper than
the front ones...(omg that was pathetic)

[edit]btw the 13thzone theme "nature" is pretty big area,
most of bgs are related to nature...
