Actually.. auto revive DOES prevent you from winning in game types like VS. There's a time delay between the moment you defeat all opponents on screen, and the moment the game logic figures out you've won... I think. Whatever the reasoning is, a character who auto revives would be impossible to defeat, unless you can interrupt the revival process.
Anyway, this has been done before, and quite a freaking long time ago. lol. Anyone remebers Wraith Sorceror? there was another character made around the same time which uses a similar method of resurrection, except the target was the character itself, and activated on the on-Lying frames IF the character was dead.
Just realised that character; Sharpe, can be found in LFE's character downloads.
@Marshall:
Incidentally, I knew the dude(personally) who made phoenix, but forget who he is. Shame on me.
Aaaand looking at the Sharpe entry in LFE made me remember what a mess of a character it was. lol. I don't think I put any thought in its design and just used it as a miscellaneous DC and Sprite test. haha. Following shields? Cloning Bullets? Flying? Self-Ressurection? the only thing normal was that stupid LONG CLAW ARM attack that i think I copied from LF-Mega's wierd magic sword using firzen edit.
I don't think anyone ever found a use for cloning bullets, its a strangely wierd idea.

2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

"The flapping fish" method=opposite, you can win, but char cannot be killed.

Err... I meant that the score table doesn't appear. iirc.
As in, the character self-revives BEFORE the score table appears.
The only way to win is to interrupt the revive until the score table appears.
Is the explanation clearer now?
I rmb having to juggle Sharpe for a few secs while his hp is 0 to get the score table to appear, else Sharpe will revive and you'll have to kill him again.
or did I not get what you were trying to say?

You can technically win the game for a split-second when the scoreboard comes up. The condition you'll have to fulfill is a heavy overkill. I remember, I once created a character that auto-revived himself with injury: -500. In order to let the scoreboard pop up you had to deal ~1800hp damage in one action (the mod was uber-destructive, so that was a condition which was relatively easy to fulfill). However, since the reviving goes on and on and on, you'll end up being killed nevertheless :P
Only solution is the prevention of a second object reviving you by either transforming the character or creating another object which will, in case of death, destroy the first before it can give you back some hp.
