Tbh, I like both color-combos. Really, can't decide if Hari's or JustMe's looks better. Probably different from viewer to viewer.
Other than that, it's already a solid start. If you're going for LF2-ish backgrounds, you might want to study them a little closer; they usually have comparably few colors and sharp edges. I'm not quite a fan of it but I read the word "bg" and immediately associated it with LF2.
Also, what Phil said. Don't be shy to use a hard-edged brush for things such as mountain-ranges. Same goes for a bit of foam on the water. In addition, you might want to consider adding a focal-point somewhere. Even though it's just a background, those generally have some eye-candy as well. You could, for example, try to add a seagull somewhere
