If he accuses the first guy he finds right away, then he would die next, and we would still need to guess ourselves who the other 2 are. After revealing the 2 mafia goons he would be useless as a cop, so losing him or a townie afterwards wouldn't matter as his mission would be accomplished.
That's true, but that's the optimal case... what if he dies before divulging his information? Even if he doesn't get to check a mafia goon, the "citizen" result could be useful to us, to avoid lynching (Townies|GF) for now, and concentrate on the goons.

I just hope that he doesn't try to do this... because a random accusation looks really suspicious for the rest of us, and we may not follow. And even if we do get the hint, I'm pretty sure that the remaining mafia will get it too, and he will die the next night.
As a personal opinion, I think that the Cop should stay low and reveal himself in the second day round, giving information about the two checkings made so far, and tell the Doctor to protect him in the third night to get one final check. That or wait up to the third day round and get 4 checkings, but I feel like it's too risky... the chances of mafias killing the Cop increase each round (not that much if we go with the no-kill thingy, but still), and 3 checkings are pure gold with this setting.
